Great Renunciation or Maha Abhinishkarmana is the name given to the important event in the life of Prince Siddhartha Gautam of the Shakya dynasty of present day Nepal. The young prince left his father’s at age of 29 and abandoned the world in search of noble truths. In other words, Great Renunciation is the renunciation of palatial life and worldly pleasure by Prince Siddhartha Gautam. 

The very scene of Prince Siddhartha Gautam leaving the palace on a white horse was recreated on the day with monks, senior tourism officials and office-bearers of Lumbini Development Trust leaving the Tilaurakot Palace ruins. Since then, it has organized such event twice, last one on July 26, 2021
