The oldest monastery in the Everest region with the backdrop of snow fed peaks, Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Kangtega, Thamserku, etc. Tengboche monastery is the pilgrimage located at the heavenly height of 3840m. It was built in 1916 A.D.
The journey to the monastery is more akin to a trek and necessitates a certain level of physical stamina. The monastery, which is surrounded by the powerful Himalayas and painted in a vibrant shade of gold, is the ideal illustration of how rich both our cultural and natural heritage are.
The Mani Rimdu festival, which takes place in October and November, adds to the monastery’s splendour. One of the liveliest events, the 19-day festival features a variety of mask dancers that perform expertly while telling various folktales. In the last three days, the monastery is open to the public to enjoy the dance. Since the festival coincides with the trekking season, trekking to Tengboche and observing the festival can be one of the best experiences.
